Hard-won wisdom from two burns. The principles that nobody writes down, but every veteran lives by — gathered here and given freely as a gift.

About the Book

It started as a gift.
It became a guide.

Before his first burn, Andrew's friend Oleksii handed him 10 principles — not a survival checklist, but the real stuff. The things that transform a trip to the desert into a life-changing encounter with the playa and yourself.

Two burns later, Andrew had collected 15 more of his own. Things Oleksii didn't warn him about. Things the official guides skip. Things that only reveal themselves at 3am when the dust settles and you're sitting in the temple, trying to figure out what just happened to you.

This book is both of them — 25 principles in total. Written in Ukrainian and English. Available as a free digital read, and soon in print. Given the way the playa gives everything: freely, with open hands.

The Reality

You know what to pack.
But do you know how to survive psychologically?

Most newcomers spend months obsessing over gear: the right tent, the right goggles, the right e-bike. But gear won't save you when the dust storm hits and all your plans fall apart.

You don't need another packing list. You need a psychological blueprint. This book is the manual that explains what happens to your mind when you cross the gate—and how to put yourself back together when you return to the default world.

  • Efficiency is a trap. Learn why moving in a straight line ruins your burn.
  • The 2-week rule. Why your post-playa decisions are dangerous.
  • Radical Generosity. Navigating a gifting economy without expectations.

What You'll Learn

A few of the 25

Not tips. Not tricks. These are the principles that shift how you experience everything — on the playa and off it.

Don't walk in a straight line

Principle 01

Don't Walk in a Straight Line

The playa rewards curiosity, not efficiency. Destinations are the enemy of discovery. Let something catch your eye and follow it.

Don't stand in line

Principle 08

Don't Stand in Line

You are not there to be entertained. Turn around, find someone who's looking the other way, and make your own party.

Gifts on the playa

Principle 12

The Gift Is You

You don't need to bring anything elaborate. Your attention, your help, your presence — these are the rarest gifts on the playa.

No plan survives the playa

Principle 18

No Plan Survives the Playa

Plans create expectations. Expectations create disappointment. Come with intentions, not itineraries.

Two weeks of grace

Principle 25

Two Weeks of Grace

Don't quit your job. Don't break up with your partner. Don't propose. The playa cracks you open — give yourself time to understand what you're actually feeling.

Integration

After the Burn

Integration

What happens on the playa is prologue. The real transformation happens when you bring it home — and choose what to do with who you've become.
